Tutoring younger students in core subjects: math, spelling, reading, religious/bible studies, history and science. Ask you teacher for one or two pupils. Parents are always looking for a good tutor.

Get your parents involved, they may have some good ideas and even be more encouraged to help you out, if they see you trying instead of just holding out your hand.

Make up fliers and pass them around in your neighborhood:

Cleaning old leaves from plants
Raking and sweeping leaves

Be a DJ for school parties.

Deliver newspapers. Get a job doing the morning delivery or even find who is person delivering your newspaper and ask you can do part of the route for $10. Ride your bike and make a few extra bucks.

Organizing a garage sale, win win for you and parents. You get money and they get rib of un-needed stuff.


Be a photographer or videographer for parties.

Take pictures for local business.

Take pictures for insurance company of houses or car accidents.

Be a photographer for summer camp or local sport team.





Ask around your neighborhood and classmates to see if anyone is in need of any simple services: House cleaning, vacuum twice a week, dust three times a week, mop twice a week, pet sitting, dog walking, or washing cars.

Find people who need a babysitter. Have any family friends or family members that need someone to watch their little ones while they're out.

House sitting neigbors go on vactions and would their house to have the some is still home look.

Dog (animal) sittings - vacationers need people to watch and care for thier pets. Watering a friend or neighbor's indoor plants while they are out of town. Bringing in the mail and newspaper for a vacationing neighbor.

Parents Helper or neighborhood parent helper. Similar to a baby sitter. However, if the child is too young to baby sit on their own, then a job helping parents is a good opportunity. They can help watch someone's kids, assist with the feeding, playing or doing chores in/around the house.




Designing a web page(s). Ask around several people need assist with creating and maintaining them.

Answering surveys on the computer.

Sell stuff on Ebay or Amazon.



Make crafts, homemade cards, jewelry and other objects. You can sell them to neighbors, friends and family or even sell the items at flea markets.

Start a garden and sell the fresh vegetables on the corner just like a lemonade stand.

Take the free American Red Cross on babysitting for kids to help train them to be a good babysitter.

Work at a amusement park that hires a zillion people in the summer.

Work at a summer camp, resort, or vacation spot.

Collecting from neighbor's and returning recyclable materials.


Organize school, neighborhood or corner gas station car wash. Most people like to have a clean car, but do not necessarily like to wash it themselves! Make sure to get some pointers on car washing from your parents before you start. Pairing up with a friend and working as a team good approach as well.

Helping the elderly ex: carrying the mail up to their door each day, help around the house or yard, clean his or her house, delivering groceries or washing, drying, folding and hanging clothes.

Apply for a part job or a helper job:
Check with a school counselor(they sometimes have list of business that hire summer help from the school), look around for local businesses (need a little job done) and parents.

Be a clown for a small child's birthday party.

Making and selling homemade cookies, cupcakes, greeting cards, etc.
Having a lemonade, coke, donuts or even gatorade stand.

Become a landscaping assistant.

Call your local/state government, many states and municipalities offer summer job programs.

You can get an entry-level job with a small business. Just open the business section of the phone book. Drive through small industrial and office centers and knock on doors. It will be helpful if you have a skill the business can use such as typing, computer skills, etc.

Make a resume listing your work/volunteer experience, the school you go to, some sports/clubs your involved in. Go to restaurants, retail stores, fast food restaurants, dry cleaner places, retirement and nursing homes, book stores, Target, Wal-Mart and grocery stores.
